MEDICAL SHARING PLANS

Part of my job is to help you understand what all of your healthcare options are.  If you find health insurance unaffordable, the least expensive insurance solution is Short Term Medical insurance, which I highlight on my STM web page.

Last year when I was 56, I had Short Term medical insurance the entire year and paid about $225-$275 per month.  I also still carry the stand-alone Accident plan highlighted on this website.

Another alternative to going without insurance is to consider a health-sharing organization.

It is important to understand that these programs are not insurance.   In short these non-profit organizations pool members monthly contributions (like premiums) each month to pay members medical bills in an organized way.  Each organization deems what health conditions they consider 'sharable' according to their outlined policies and program limitations.   Each organization works differently.

There is a web site that compares 11 different health-sharing organizations.  I do not endorse or recommend this website--it is for informational purposes only and may include bias.

In 2025 I personally enrolled in the MediShare program.   I selected this program because they have been sharing medical bills since 1993, which is a long track record.   I never had a major claim during that time, which I am thankful for, so I do not know how they would pay if I had a costly cancer or other major claim.  Under my program, I was responsible for the first $6000, then they would share 100% of 'sharable' medical expenses after that.   I was comfortable with that level of risk.    I am also a Christian and believe that people helping each other pay their medical bills is fundamentally a good thing.
